Family School Relation and its Effect on Students Learning.

Abstract

The success of school largely depends upon active participation of parents in their children education. The role of school principals is crucial in providing more and more opportunities to parents in schools. Their involvements in schools greatly enhance the academic and non-academic performance students. It is the strong home-school connection that leads the school to success and brilliance.

Therefore this quantitative study was aimed to make a comparative analysis of public and private school principal’s role in parental participation at secondary level. The population of the study consisted of all Public and private secondary schools, their principals and parents in District Malakand. A sample of 16 principals and 80 parents were randomly selected for the study. Of the 16 secondary schools, 08 were from Public and 8 schools were from private sector. While 40 parents each were selected from both sectors. Data were collected through close ended questionnaire. The questionnaire was designed on likert scale having 5 options. The statements in the questionnaire were designed in such a way that it would cover the role of school principal in promoting parental participation in schools. They were related with different strategies and ways through which the school principals involved parents in their children’s education by providing more and more opportunities. The questionnaires were delivered to the selected Public and Private secondary school principals and parents to find out the extent and practices of school principals in this regard and compare both sectors. Hundred percent data from sampled school principals and parents were collected personally by the researcher in proper manners. Data collected through above-mentioned instruments were tabulated, analyzed, discussed and interpreted by using simple .ercentage. On the basis of analysis it was found that there was a significant difference between the responses of both public and private schools principals and also among parents of both categories of district Malakand. It was concluded that private school principals had clear understanding about parental participation. Their principals were more active and took the lead by providing multiple opportunities of participation to parents. While the Govt school principals is not satisfactory in parental participation. Their concept of parental participation is poor. That might be also one of the reasons why the private schools mostly outnumber the Govt School in student’s academic achievement. It is recommended that Govt school principal should be more instrumental and play his/her role in promoting parental participation in schools to deliver the best results.
